John
Lee Makes It Official—Files for Senate District 1
Businessman,
former legislator cites agenda for families, safety, integrity.
Local
businessman and former assemblyman John Lee filed Wednesday for the
Nevada State Senate seat currently held by Ray Shaffer, R-North Las
Vegas. Lee outlined the main elements of his campaign, built around
the theme, “For us, our families, and Nevada’s future.”
“I
grew up right here and went to school here,” said the Rancho
High graduate. “My first job was in Senate District 1. I know
this district well because I’m part of it—my roots are
here.”
Lee reaffirmed
his belief that strong families are the bedrock of our society. “We
can do more to help families thrive,” Lee said. “It all
begins with a sense of security and safety. That’s why I’ve
supported increased penalties for crimes against children and the
elderly. It’s why I favor giving our police the support they
need to do the job.”
As a
businessman, Lee credits “some luck, lots of hard work, personal
responsibility, and a strong family” in his rise from a newly-wed
dishwasher to the owner and operator of two successful businesses
today. We need to weigh our decisions not on short term fixes but
long term solutions.
Lee says
many of the voters he’s met are also concerned with integrity
in office. “I believe we can shape the future through our own
acts and values,” Lee said, “I’ve enjoyed all my
volunteer work in scouting, in the community, in my church and my
work in the legislature. We have a responsibility to be good role
models. Legislators need to remember that they are elected to serve
the public not to be wined and dined,” Lee said. “Integrity
counts.”
Lee,
a 48 year old Democrat, will celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary
this year. The couple has 7 children and 4 grandchildren.
